Manipal – place of Hasthashilpa, heritage village and Manipal Educational Institutions

Hastashilpa – Hastashilpa is a fusion of disparate architectural elements recapturing the style of the traditional homes of the region on a hillock in Manipal.

Heritage Village – The heritage village will have eight museums, which will display the traditional arts, crafts, paintings and textiles of the region. There will also be galleries depicting the life and works of cultural luminaries of the district, an arts and crafts production-cum training center a performing arts center with a well-equipped experimental theatre, a recording studio to preserve video and audio tapes of the various vanishing folk art forms. It is a literary center to help literature find its cultural moorings and an elaborate documentation center.

Planetarium – one can gaze at the stars from here even at daytime. This is the second planetarium in the state of Karnataka.

Anatomy museum – various kinds of collections related to the human body are preserved here.

Jomlu Teertha – on Ellu amavasya (an auspicious day in the Hindu calendar) day, people come to this place and bathe in the waterfalls. This year, more than 10,000 people bathed on the holy day. Having natural beauty, this place is a well-known picnic spot.

Varanga – a known Jain pilgrim center. One chaturmukha basadi is in the midst of a pond. There is one Jain mutt and another basadi.

Karkala – Karkala situated about 35 Kms from Udupi, is the headquarters of the Karkala Taluk. About 52 kms northeast of Mangalore, Karkala is known primarily for the statue of Lord Bahubali (Gomateshwara).

Dharmasthala – Dharmasthala is perhaps the most highly revered and best-known temple town in Karnataka. Located amidst the picturesque Western Ghats on the banks of the Netravathi River, it is about 100 kms from Udupi. Devotees of all caste and creed visit this holy place well known for charity.

Ambalpady – The site of the hoary shrine of Sri Mahakali, situated in Ambalpady ward of Udupi town was originally a wood. ‘Ambalpady’ is the name of the village where the temple is located.

Pajaka – Pajaka has the birthplace of Sri Madhwacharya, situated seven miles southeast of Udupi Kunjaru hill, near Pajaka a famous Durga Temple on its top. This hill is also known as `Durga betta’. On its four sides are four holy teerthas or tanks created by Lord Parashurama.

Kunjarugiri – located in the Udupi taluk, it is about 11 kms from Udupi. The hamlet consists of two small hills.

Barkur – Barkur a hamlet of Kachur village about 16 kms to the north of Udupi, was once a renowned capital of the region. The original name of the town was Barakanur, which was later changed to Barahakanyapura (the town of twelve virgins).

Kollur – Kollur, 76 kms from Udupi, is one of the most important places of pilgrimage on the west coast attracting pilgrims from all over India. The temple dedicated to the Divine Mother, Sri Mookambika, stands in the valley of the great Kodachadri peak.

Ottinane – The Kshitija Nature Resort, a beach, sunset point are the favourite spots of travelers here. Forest guest house provides accomodation to visitors.

Maravanthe – Maravanthe (Kundapura taluk), about nine kms east of Kundapura is one of the most beautiful spots of south Canara along the east coast. It is an enchanting place, where on the western side, the Arabian Sea is stretching, while on the eastern side, runs the Saurpanika River and in between them passes the west coast road.

Hattiangadi – about 8 kms to the the northeast of Kundapur, hattiangadi is on the northern bank of the river Varahi. It is well known for its ancient ruined temples, important basadis and insrcriptions. The newly renovated Ganesha temple is a major tourist spot.

Anegudde – Kumbhashi, about nine kms to the south of Kundapur, is famous for its two temples, namely, Mahalingeshwara and Anegudde Vinayaka.

Kateel – the temple of Goddess Durga Parameshwari is well known and people from different parts of India visit this place.

Polali – About 72 kms from Udupi, formerly known as ‘Pulingapura’, is a hamlet of Kariangala village. Polali is situated at the distance of about 200 yards from the Gurpur River. It has an important temple dedicated to Shree Rajarajeshwari.

Pilikula – with nature resort, water resort, sanctuary, Snake Park, Pilikula is a loved spot for travel freaks. An Ayurveda centre is also being planned.

Ullal – situated on the banks of Netravati River, it is 8 kms from Mangalore. It has the well-known dargah of the saint Syed Mohammed Sheiful Madani.

Someshwar – the Someshwar Beach is a favourite spot for nature lovers and swimmers. Huge rocks and a temple on the top of these rocks is a nice sight. Trip to this place is very refreshing.

Kadri – Sri Manjunatha Temple – Kadri, about 5 kms from the Mangalore city bus stand, is an ancient religious spot in Mangalore. Among the places of interest in Mangalore, the temple at Kadri stands foremost. This temple dedicated to Lord Manjunatha, dating back to about 1068 A.D., and nestling at the foot of the Kadri hill, draws to Mangalore hundreds of visitors. Some of the images and idols found here are indeed priceless for beauty and antiquity. The Lokeshwara bronze statue of this Temple is tipped to be the best bronze statue in India.

Shri Mangaladevi Temple – The ancient Mangaladevi temple is in Bolar, 3 kms from Mangalore city bus stand. According to the legend, the name “Mangalore”, originated from the Goddess Mangaladevi who is enshrined in this temple, built in the tenth century.

Sharavu temple – Sri Sharavu Sharabeshwara – Sri Mahaganapathy Kshetra is an outstanding, pious centre of great illustrious history of marathon 800 years.

Kudroli Gokarnath Temple – situated 3 Km. from main Nehru Maidan Bus Stand, this temple has been renovated and now it is one of the major tourist attractions in Mangalore

Sultan Batteri – this is a watchtower claimed to be built by Tipu Sultan to help prevent the entrance of warships into the Gurpur River. It has a complex construction and though it was meant to be a simple watchtower, it gives the impression to the onlookers of a miniature fortress with its many apertures for mounting cannons all round.

Panambur beach – Tannirbavi Beach is one of the best beaches of Dakshina Kannada. One can enjoy the sunset view here. It is about 12 Km. away from Bus Stand.

Surathkal Beach – This picturesque beach is known for its clean surroundings and the lighthouse. This beach is a few minutes away from Karnataka Regional Engineering College (K.R.E.C)
