The beautiful area surrounding Manipal Lake is called Mannapalla. Situated in this area is the temple of Prasanna Ganapathi. The people of this area- Anantha Nagar I & II stage, HUDCO Colony, Lakshminarayana Nagar, Dhasharath Nagar, Shanthi Nagar, Industrial Area etc. had been longing since long to have a temple. Following these sentimental and immotional aspirations of the people, a trust was formed by name “ Venkatachala Seva Trust”. Thus the construction of “ Sri Prasanna Ganapathi Temple” was done in the beautiful site, which lies on the southern part of Manipal lake.
Their holiness Sri Vishweshwesha Theertha Swamiji of Pejavar Math, Sri Vidyasagara Theertha Swamiji of Krishna Math, Sri Lakshmivara Theertha Swamiji of Shirur Math and Sri Sugunendra Theertha Swamiji of Puttige Math have laid the foundation stone for the Temple on 26th October, 1996. Rajarshi Dr. D. Veerendra Heggade, the Dharmadhikari of Shri Kshetra Dharmasthala presided over the function.
The temple is beautifully constructed. Granite flooring, Prakara construction and the Ashvatha katte all add up to the beauty of the temple. The carved idol of “ Prasanna Ganapathi” is really beautiful. Devotees visit the temple and pray to lord Ganapahti –deity of this temple. The other temple in Manipal is Venugoapla temple which is located opposite side of Mannapalla (Lake).
There are a few seats provided in between the trees at the side of the temple, which makes it an ideal and cool shady patch for relaxing. The view of the lake and the fresh breeze is soothing both for the mind and body.
