P N NARASHIMHA MURTHY
Dr. P N Narasimha Murthy, the famous historian of the coastal belt is an authority voice on Jainism in the Kanara coast, temple structures, history and also stone inscriptions here. The retired principal of the famous Mahatma Gandhi Memorial College, Udupi, Dr. Murthy Udupi is always a busy man who keeps himself occued in one or other research works.
Dr. Murthy born at Periyapatna, got his Ph.D from Mysore University on Jainism on the Kanara Coast in the year 1983 which was the first research work on Jainism of the South Kanara. Even the foreign evaluators acclaimed the thesis work as the best thesis on the subject.
Once completed the Ph D, many stop their research work. But for Dr Murthy it gave an impetus for his further works. He has discovered more than 250 stone inscriptions and copper plate inscriptions in Dakshina Kannada, thus creating his one place of pride in the history of South Canara.
Dr. Murthy started his career as a lecturer at Sri Bhuvanendra College, Karkala, became professor there, headed the Department of History and later transferred to MGM College, Udupi on promotion as Principal and was working as principal till his retirement in 1998.
More than 250 research articles of him both in English and Kannada got published in various research journals and periodicals. He has also attended more than 35 All India Conferences and presented research papers. Similarly attended more than 30 All India Seminars organised by various universities, the UGC and ICHR. Further worked as a resource person in history to train teachers and lecturers in Karnataka. Dr Murthy who always associated himself in one or the other research works has published many in this respect. They are

In addition to this he has also worked on a project Temples of Dakshina Kannada which is just published.
He gave more than 15 talks on various topics of history in AIR, Mangalore and contributed many features on the various topics like Temples, Basadi, Life, art and architecture to AIR Mangalore.
Besides his hectic activities in research and study, Dr Murthy has associated himself with various organisation and was active. He was the founder secretary of Karkala Jaycees and later became its President. Founder Member and executive committee member of two All India Research Organisations.

Though Dr Murthy keeps himself away from honours and titles, the Karkala Taluku Sahitya Parishat noticed his hardwork and honoured him during its frist Conference held at Karkala.
