Udupi
Udupi a land of ethereal beauty, sandwiched between the verdant mountains of the western ghats on the east and the vast, tranquil Arabian Sea on the west. This new district, carved out of the erstwhile Dakshina Kannada, which was more aptly called "Parashurama Srishti", encapsulates the vast cultural heritage. Udupi is well known for its religious fervour and vividity of diverse cultural heritage.
Karkala
Karkala situated about 35 kms. from Udupi, is the headquarters of the Karkala Taluk. About, 52 kms. north-east of Mangalore, is known primarily for the statue of Lord Bahubali (Gomateshwara). The 45-feet tall statue is estimated to weigh 80 tons. Besides its colossal size, the Karkala statue is rendered more striking by its situation on the top of a huge granite rock, 300 feet high, on the verge of a picturesque little lake.
Kundapura
Kundapur is the headquarters town of the taluk is about 36 kms from Udupi. This name can be traced to the Kundeshvara temple built by Kundavarma in the vicinity of the Panchagangavalli river. Kundapur is also described as the "town of the sun". It has another old temple, that of Mahalingeshwara. It was the principal port of the Rajas of Baindoor who came to prominence after the decline of the Vijaya Nagara power.

Udupi, an important Teerthasthal (pilgrimage place) with its historical Krishna Temple is the cultural center of Karnataka. The district, carved out of Dakshina Kannada district two years ago, has its own identity in the field of art and culture.
EDUCATION
The Gurukula system rooted well in Udupi has made complete education town, which is known for its quality education beginning from primary level. The efforts of Pais of Manipal and others in Udupi has converted this land into a centre of quality education. Once barren land Manipal has now grown into internationally reputed educational city offering courses in almost all disciplines, in spite of being perhaps the smallest town in India.
Beaches
a hamlet of Padu village about l2 kms south of Udupi Kaup is situated on the coastal belt, which passes through the West Coast National Highway. Marda Heggade, a chieftain, rose to power here during the Vijayanagara days. It has an old lighthouse, the guiding star of navigators who are warned of the presence of dangerous rocks in the sea.
Travels
Udupi is loveable tourist spot. The temples, churches and beaches are the major attraction in this part of the Konkan coastal belt. Lord Krishna of Udupi has a magnetic appeal. Other important temples are Ambalpady, Kumbashi Sri Mahaganapathi, Siddhi Vinayaka temple in Hattiangady, Kollur Mookambika temple, Basadis in Karkala and the monolith statue of Gomateshwara, churches and mosques and other religious centres are worth seeing.
Cities
