Kasturba Medical College
India's first private medical college

June 30, 1953 marks the beginning of a new chapter in the development of medical education in India. This eventful day saw the forming of Kasturba Medical College. Founded by Dr. T. M. A. Pai, KMC is also India's first private medical college. Kasturba's entry into the domain of medical education was on a new philosophy. Higher education was now offered as a co-operative venture.

Kasturba the distinction of becoming a hallmark in medical education. Helping position Manipal among the frontline educational complexes in the country.

Kasturba's maiden affiliation to Karnataka University and recognition of the first batch of doctors by the Indian Medical Council combined with that of the British Medical Council stand testimony to the quality of education at Manipal. This premier medical institution continues to be on an excellent track. Reason enough for Kasturba to attract students from all parts of India.
